2 layer video cropping layer 1 goes transparent

I have a strange problem.
I want to do a split screen with cropping because people come in the door in this scene and I want to "crop them out"
But when I add the crop of the closed door on layer 2 and press play, layer 1 (where the lady walkes to the table) becomes transparent.
It is hard to explain maybe, so I added a picture.
