Resolve 17 Beta on Mac M1 / Version name & download location
Hi together,
I still use the free version of DaVinci (17.1 on Mac Mini), although I ordered the speed editor mid of November 2020 and still waiting for the studio bundle ... I just wanna avoid hearing "be satisfied with what you get for free" (and to be honest: it is really an AMAZING piece of software)
Nevertheless, some remarks to the general delivery of new beta versions:
1) When I check for new versions inside DaVinci, I usually get the message "Your software is up to date / DaVinci Resolve 17.1 Beta". On the other hand, the support page shows a new Beta8, Beta9 every one or two weeks. To get this new beta, I always have to re-enter my data (name, address, ...) ...
---> If the "Inside DaVinci" check would work correct, we (users) would not have to enter our data again and again, spamming your inbox
Just a little improvement
2) When you open the DaVinci homepage and click "Download now", you see the "Mac OS X / Windows / Linux" versions. I assume many M1 users will download the "wrong Mac" version first, not being happy with the promised performance, until they find out that the M1 version cannot be found under "DOWNLOAD NOW", but in the support area.
---> Why not adding a fourth point in the main download "Mac M1 / Mac OS X / Windows / Linux" ?
3) The version numbers can be confusing, I installed the (correct) Beta9 today on my Mac Mini.
- In the DaVinci Opening Screen, I see "DaVinci Resolve 17" with a "Public Beta" tag
- In the "About DaVinci" menu I see "Version 17.1B BUILD18"
- In the "Check for Updates" menu I see "DaVinci Resolve 17.1 Beta" (independent from Beta 8 or Beta 9)
---> So inside DaVinci I found no place where I can see the correct version ...
4) The download files from the new Beta9 are called DaVinci_Resolve_17.1b9_Mac.zip - so is the ".1" a hint for the M1 version? Intel Mac users currently have DaVinci_Resolve_17.0b9_Mac.zip
- Inside the M1 installation routine, the Beta9 is called "Resolve 17.1.0b", one click further "You are about to install DaVinci Resolve 17"
In my opinion ...
- naming the files DaVinci_Resolve_17b9_MacOSX.zip and DaVinci_Resolve_17b9_MacM1.zip
- and showing "DaVinci Resolve 17Beta9 for Mac M1" at installation time and inside DaVinci
... in a more consistent way would avoid much confusion (especially with the different download places).
I know this is not the most important topic, but I am sure I am not the only one that was a little confused in the beginning. Since the rest of DaVinci appears almost perfect this should be a minor challenge
