Creating a shareable database

In light of the most recent update to DR 17.

Question: are shareable databases only meant to be used on local networks. Like in one building?

Or are they designed to share with say an editor or colourist elsewhere?

We can't seem to find a straight forward how-to set these up.

Anyone know of a great tutorial or have any suggestions?

Hahaha why is this so difficult :)

The PostGreSQL server operation with Resolve is designed for local area network connections, same subnet, as you need very low latency between the client and the database server. Extremely low.

The DaVinci Resolve Project Server provides a simple interface for the PostGreSQL server to help you manage databases, back them up and share multiple DaVinci Resolve clients. It does not change the fact that low latency is needed between the clients and to the database server.

Numerous test of VPN and dark fibre or raw internet connection to remote sites show only some degree of operation, likely ok if there is only one live user and the DB server is where they are, and the other site is for backup. We cant recommend remote network operation at this time.

Wow the announcement totally made us believe it would work remotely. That’s a real pity!

Thank you for taking the time to explain this, it’s greatly appreciated.

We’ll just have to find other options.

Anyone in FCPX or Premier have any suggestions? Are there simple ways that allow an external user to edit, grade etc, the same project?

You may want to have a look at Kyno, they have a YT channel.

It's not real Collaboration where you both work at the same time, but a simple sharing of media and .drp files would get the job done.

Premiere Team Projects. I hate Premiere, but this feature alone means we cannot move to another NLE.
