Updating between Beta Versions

PostFri Feb 12, 2021 11:53 pm

HI all:

Bit of a noob question.

I've been on DR16 for about 6-7 months, and just got the new Mac mini M1. Yesterday I loaded up 17.1b V8 and found audio sidecar ducking not working, and see there is a Beta 9 released today.

Can I upgrade between beta versions without loosing my current project? If so how?

Maybe...
- Export and Archive?
- Force a backup and use that after the update?

Thanks for you help.

(I attempted to start this new topic a little while ago, and it did not appear to have been posed. - apologies if this created a duplicate threat.)

We always recommend making a database backup before upgrading. Do this from the Project Manager page, or the new Project server if you are using that.

Generally upgrading within a main version, 17.1 b1 tp 17.1 b2 etc, there is no change in the database structure, so the upgrade is as simple as installing the new one. The old database and projects will not be erased.

In your case, moving from v16 to v17.1, there is a database upgrade. So, you really should back up all the databases you have. Then, restore those databases, open the project, prove the backup and restore worked... and then, only then, install 17.1.

When you install 17.1, you will see all the v16 databases will need to be upgraded. Only upgrade the restored versions of those databases, so the original v16 are forever v16, and the restored v16 now become v17 databases.

I was lucky as I was setting up a brand new Mac Mini M1. I held off going to 17 for this very reason. And since BM had released 17.1 for M1, then I started fresh with the Beta.

Now without some problems, and a this time the two most bothersome issues is memory leak, and freezing when quitting.

I'll have to look more into the database, there's a lot to learn in DR.
