connect grade to media bin clips?

This must be a very basic question I should know already :
I want to be able to color correct the clips in my media bin and have those corrections stay with the clips so whenever I cut them into the timeline the corrections are already done. I don't want to have to take a second step and find a saved grade somewhere else to apply
Way back in FCP7 I used to correct a shot in the timeline then make that corrected clip a subclip, but as far as I know I can't make a timeline a subclip in Resolve.
So how do I do this? Its gotta be possible right?

Hello,
As in FCP, you can make a compound clip, grade it as you like and use it in your timeline.

Thanks , but isn’t that designed more for what other apps call a nested clip , kind a little mini sequence ? Is that suitable just for attaching a grade to a clip? From what I read that can slow down the processing .
I think I’m just asking a simpler dumber question : I have a clip that I expect to use different parts of in different timelines within a project and it’s a b roll shot that I want to be able to quickly check out to see if it works while editing . I make a quick timeline just to play with grades and find how I want it to look . I can make a still and save the grade , but I just want that grade to stick with the clip every time I quickly sample it without having to go find the still frame every time .
I need to do this for a bunch of clips (audience b roll) . Just trying to speed up my process and seems like I’m probably missing something very basic .
Would versions help with this ?

"Remote versions" is what you want. Chapter 117 "Grade Management" in the manual.

To the best of my knowledge, you can only grade clips in a timeline, so the normal process would be to edit first and color after. You can't grade clips from the bin.
That said, Timo's suggestion of Remote Grading will do the job.

Yeah, that is probably true, Jim. So you may need to make a timeline with all the raw clips and grade them first. If you have Remote versions active, the grades will follow to another timeline with the actual edit.

Thanks , that's what I'm trying. A little confused about how to make sure I have a version enabled but i'll figure that out.

Might be easier to learn it.
Help>Reference Manual.

Thanks Jim, Actually I often find the Reference Manual less than fully helpful (though sometimes its great). In this case its been the latter for me. In particular I find it often hard to find what I'm looking for by searching on key words or phrases.
Nevertheless I found some online tutorials that helped a lot and I think I've got the hang of it now. It does seem be exactly the workflow I was looking for so thanks. In one Alexis Van Hurkmann said that originally Resolve's default was to allow Remote grades but too many beginners found it confusing , I like it.

If you click the "bookmark" icon on the left edge of an Adobe Acrobat Reader window the table of contents will appear. I usually find that to be more helpful in locating what I want than by trying to do a keyword search.

Haha - Sean That is an incredibly useful; tip that I never noticed before. that will make it way easier to look stuff up quickly.
Do you know how to access that manual when Resolve is not open? I have a downloaded PDF but the interactive links don't work at all so its very cumbersome.
Actually a related question is that the Resolve training videos are often recommended here but I've stayed away because they are so long and I don't learn much unless I'm in a practical problem solving situation. Is there any thing like a table of contents with elapsed time references for those videos.

I do find the videos a good overview for folks looking to switch, but once you've decided to use Resolve, I think the manuals offered below the videos are the best path forward. They come with lessons and are well written.
