Slip Edit for Audio on Fairlight Page?

PostSat Feb 13, 2021 6:41 am

Is there a way to roll audio clip data in place? By that I mean the head and tail of the clip remain in place, and the duration of the clip does NOT change, but the data slides forward or backward WITHIN the clip?

Pro Tools calls it Nudging Data Within Clip and its accomplished by holding CTRL and pressing + / - on the numeric keypad.

If not, then I would VERY much like to request that as a feature. It's extremely helpful for placing sounds and finessing sync of dialog.

I'm an Avid editor who dabbles in audio post, so I am not super familiar with Resolve's edit and cut pages. But going thru the manual I see there is a slip edit function for picture. Is there a way to do the same to audio on the Fairlight page?

This is possible within the Fairlight Audio Editor's Edit megamode with the (Nudge) Media Left/Right keys. No equivalent currently in Resolve's UI.

You might try the normal Slip operation on the Edit page.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Sorry, as a new user of Fairlight, I don't understand what this means. Can you be more specific?

I suppose so, but that's unfortunate having to leave the Fairlight tab to do what is a very common edit. The developers offer a fairly elegant implementation in the edit and cut pages, but didn't think it might be useful for audio editing as well? Hopefully slip edit will make the next iteration of Fairlight?

The Fairlight Audio Editor hardware provides more advanced editing feature set.

Refer to: Resolve 16 manual | Page 3330 | Chapter 162 | Using the Fairlight Audio Editor

Ah, got it. Thanks. That's good to know the functionality at least exists. As a person who doesn't do post audio professionally, I don't think I can justify the cost of a pro controller, but I'm still hopeful the feature can get added to the GUI sooner than later.

Ugh, that's what I get for not reading it closely. So back to the original question and ensuing feature request: What do we have to do to get this feature?

There is a separate forum for Feature Requests.

viewforum.php?f=33

Best practice is to search first, to see if someone already asked. If not, post one idea per thread with a very brief description of the idea in the thread's title.
