B17v9 and eatlier playback errors

PostSat Feb 13, 2021 5:25 pm

1. The "loop playback" switch on the Color page doesn't always work. I can't figure out the system. But on many occasions, it is just being ignored.

2. The render range set on the Delivery page affects playback on the Color page. I can't play clips placed out of the render range. It's very annoying.

DaVinci Studio, Windows 10 Professional (English). I don't think logs may help but I can create it if you feel it would be helpful.

2. In/Out points are now universal. Set them on one page, they apply across all pages. :D
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

For what?! How my delivery range is connected with my work on the Color or Editing?

If I, let'scsay, exported one clip from the middle for a test purposes, I can't return to my color grading without additional actions, which I have to always keep in mind.

Think of it this way.

If you add a clip to a timeline on the Edit page, you want that clip showing up on all other pages, yes?

If you Mute a track in Fairlight, you want that track Muted in all other pages, yes?

If you add a timeline Marker in the Cut page, you want that Marker showing up on Edit, yes?

So, if you set In/Out points on one page, they should appear on all other pages.

Basically, whatever you do to a timeline should propagate, as it is the same timeline.

Disagree.

All you wrote was about EDITING. Yes, is I edited something in one place I want to see changes in other.

But the delivery page has no connection with editing. It is the technical area. I may want to work with the whole timeline or with a part but render just a different part of it, and I may to want to do it repeatedly, why not?

Mmmm...you wouldn't really consider markers, clips colors and track colors as 'editing' would you? (They don't affect final output in any way.) But you'd still want those things to be consistent across pages, right?

The idea is that it's the same timeline, so everything you do should propagate.

Once the behavior is known, one can get the work done. :D

No, I do.
But I do not consider the DELIVERY as an editing page. I do my editing through the MEDIA to COLOR. Not in DELIVERY.

For me, it is not consistency but a logical error.

BTW, the same happens with video monitoring. When I have an HD monitor, I must set "outputs scaling" to fit it, even I set monitoring for HD - and it affects everything, includes stills export. But I only need to see my 4K video on the HD monitor!

It is a mess. Right now, I must open five projects which are archived already only to re-export stills because I forgot to check out the scaling option. BTW, recently I even got clips rendered in the wrong resolution, even when the checkbox "render at sources resolution" was enabled. I did not investigate it further and just changed the delivery setting, but now I suppose it is the consequence of the same "consistency".

So, thank you for the explanation, now I understand the process (I mean it, no sarcasm).

But it still a mess :( It may be a shortcut for development, but it is the wrong decision regarding UI and the user logic.

I don't believe that I'm the only one person angry about it.
