Hi,

Spent several hours today trying to find a way to access the timestamp metadata embedded in DVCPRO files. Is it possible?

I'm archiving old MiniDV tapes and want to split the files up into smaller files--one for each event--and do some editing/cleaning up. I transferred the files from the tape to a .DV file. Then, I rewrapped them to become a .mov file. DVAnalyzer tells me that the original time/date stamps are still available for each frame in the .mov file. Unfortunately, I can't find a way to access this data when I add the file to DVR. I'd like to burn in the record date to each of the clips.

I can't find a way to surface that information. The alternative is to manually key in the "record date" for each sequence. I'm using the latest beta of DVR 17.

I'm sorry for mis-posting. I should have been clearer. While I'm currently using the V17 beta, I couldn't figure out how to access DV timecodes under V16 either. So, I don't think this is a beta issue, but more generic. I was hoping more people would see my post here.

Time & Date stamp and Timecode are different things. If you want the original recording date you will need to ensure that the clips have that metadata visible in the Resolve Metadata panel.
If the metadata is available you can use the Workspace Data Burn-in function to display the date & timecode for each clip.

The Metadata panel shows "date modified", which is the date of the first clip on the ingested tape. Splitting the ingested file with scene detection still lists this original date/time, not the actual date/time the scene was recorded.

When playing the tape on the MiniDV camera, a time & date stamp is viewable for every frame. DV Analyzer also outputs this data for each frame--even after the .dv is rewrapped as a .mov. However, I can't seem to find a way to pull this data out as I play the file in DVR. My workaround is to manually enter a "recorded date" for each of the scenes as I cut and trim them. I then burn this variable as you suggest. I was hoping to automate this process.

When a tape with multiple shoot dates is ingested, it is treated as ONE clip. You have multiple clips with different recording dates, so you can not extract the data. Back when we used DVCAM for professional production, every clip on tape was captured as a seperate clip to the hard drive. We never captured a whole tape as one clip if we needed the metadata.

Several years ago, I recall ingesting DV tapes using a package that did split the clips into separate, properly dated files. Using these files would give me the metadata I need for burning into the video. Unfortunately, I don't recall/have the software any more though I do have an old MacBook with a firewire port that works with the old camera. Hopefully, this thread is useful to anyone dealing with old media.
