Before you Uninstall 16, go to the Help menu and Deactivate License.
(And the standard backup of databases and active projects, of course.)

Jim: Thank you for your reply, but its left me a bit confused.
If I have to uninstall 16 first. wouldn't that wipe out and De activate my License anyway?
Or if I de activate my license first as you suggest, before uninstall, does that mean that fact is stored elsewhere on my system that BM can look at and determine that I did have a license beforehand?
During all my upgrades before the last 8 upgrade I upgraded while my Resolve was up and running and had no problem with the upgrade installing and running properly. It appeared to have an incremental style install, like an incremental linker.
But with the 8 upgrade that did not work and had to be unzipped with 7 Zip (maybe that's where the problem came from)
Either way, if I download 17 Studio version and then re enter my license I THINK BM may check my license status with their records and see that I am on my 2nd install and thus still a valid Studio owner??? (The fact that they advise uninstalling 16 first seems to indicate this, or how are they to know otherwise??)
I lost my first install with the Win xxx9 to xxx20 Msoft debacle.....Resolve still worked, but when I tried a sys image back up it went crazy and wiped out both my boot and reserve boots on HDD and repair disk etc didn't work. When I used my older sys image disk with previous version Win10, it included Resolve studio, but it asked for my licence number again, so thus was on my 2nd install.
But I want to make absolutely sure first before I risk it.
Thanks again, Jim for your reply
