Image Wipe for effect

PostMon Feb 15, 2021 9:12 pm

Basic question from someone trying to find his favorite tools in a new environment....
Is it possible to have a "split screen" when adjusting an effect on the color page, much like a wipe but with the clip itself as a ref: e.g. when you want to adjust blur/sharpen and see its effect on one half of the viewer ? Not sure how Image Wipe can help me here so the workaround I found so far is to add a rectangular Window before applying/adjusting the effect on the clip, then clearing that Window.
I must be overlooking something....

Hi Ben,

right next to the button "Image Wipe" on the top of the screen where the clip is shown, there is a button called "Split Screen". There you can select a multitude of options, but in your case you will need "Versions and Original" (the last one in the dropdown list).

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Dawid

Yes, we're almost there....
Selecting this option shows me 2 versions side by side, I wish it could be a true split/wipe...
Thanks Dawid

What's a 'fake' split/wipe?

Image Wipe has an option to wipe between the current clip & another timeline clip. You WILL need to refer to the User Manual to see how to make it work. It's not obvious if you don't read how it works!

Yep, I read the manual, and since I couldn't find what I was looking for, I asked here...but apparently it is not possible to accomplish exactly what I want...: split the current frame in 2 halves (with adjustable wipe), one uncorrected and one showing the effect of the current filter being adjusted.
Dawid's answer is the closest to what I'm looking for (but, unless I missed something, it shows two complete images side-by-side, not a single image split in halves). No big deal it's just one of these numerous little details that require some brain adjustment when switching from another editing system

Grab a Still of the unmodified clip and use that for the Wipe.
