Adding straight lines to a video -

I’m looking to slow a video at certain points and add a simple line along with text to display height of a building or between two points. So far I’ve been creating lines/shapes in illustrator and adding them as media then attaching a text node but I feel that there must be a more efficient way to achieve this? A native tool maybe?
