Linux Studio (MP4 Files no Audio)

PostTue Feb 16, 2021 10:46 am

Hi there, I love Studio 17, great work !!! since beta 5 up until 7, when I import MP4 files they all import without any audio, The audio track is attached but has nothing in it. My temporary workaround is to extract the audio to .WAV on each MP4 file I need to use. It also doesn't matter where the MP4 files come from, some were from Youtube, other generated by various other encoders and apps and they all have an empty audio track. I am not sure if this is exclusive to Linux only as I have not tried the Beta on my Macbook yet as I just work on my desktop all the time.

It's a Linux thing. I use Shutter Encoder to convert the files with .wav audio.

Yeah linux doesn't support AAC or MP3 codec :/ Not sure why ...

You either use wav, of you can also use flac.

Licenses…
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

mp3 patents expired like 4 years ago ...
As for other codecs :

For the free version I can understand too because licenses are per-seat, but for the paid version, I'd happily pay 10$ extra to cover any license fee ...
Also if they use the system level provided libs for those on win/osx, why can't they just do the same on linux ? Or provide a plugin system for ingress as they do for egress now in v17.

Anyway, minor quirk.

(Now that I'm thinking about it ... maybe I could implement a VFS that exposes mp4 file as a series of uncompressed image to resolve.)

@Shrinivas Oh nice, I didn't realize.

An updated codec list document for v17 would be useful :p
