Bus Level vs Track Level

PostWed Feb 17, 2021 7:23 am

Hi there,

I have an audio track with a speaker's comment. I solo it and normalize it to -8dBFS.
When I check the metering in the mixer, it shows peaks at -8dBFS on the track, which is normal of course, but "only" about -12dBFS on the main Bus 1.
Needless to say that I didn't touch the level cursors of the track or Bus, which are both at "0.0".
Isn't the Bus 1 suppose to deliver what it's fed in with ?

Are there any settings that I have to change ?

Is the Track Mono and the Bus Stereo?

Fairlight applies the -3dB Pan Law to ensure that the total acoustic power output remains subjectively constant.

Exactly, the Track is Mono and the Bus Stereo.
Should I boost the Track by 3dB ?

That is not necessary since the perceived level remains constant.

Jim, this implementation is not specific to version 17 as it applies equally to version 14.

Isn't Bus 1 the replacement for Main 1?

We are discussing Resolve's Pan Law, and not the Bussing structure.

As mentioned, Pan Law is also relevant to version 14.

That doesn't answer my question.
