Can't Render after Upgrading to 17 beta

PostWed Feb 17, 2021 3:08 pm

Hi all-

First, let me apologize for my lack of knowledge, I am a DP not an editor or colorist. Next, I am one of those idiots who didn't backup their v 16 database before upgrading. That's on me.

Long story short: after upgrading to 17, my computer fails to render projects that I had no issue rendering before in 16. I've tried all the usual resolutions, including restarting, updating to the latest drivers, etc.

The crash always takes place around the same point in the render and appears to be related to overtaxing the GPU (2080 TI w/ 11gb vram). Admittedly, I'm putting it through its paces with 6K raw footage from a Venice, noise reduction, etc. The crash almost always takes place during a cross fade between two clips that both have noise reduction. However, as I said, I was able to render these exact same projects prior to upgrading (and because of my bonehead move not backing up my database, I'm unable to go back).

The problem appears to go away when I remove the noise reduction, but that means I have a worse looking render. I've tried with the native noise reduction in resolve as well as NEAT video and they both crash the render. The error message reads:

Render Job 1 failed as the current clip could not be Processed. GPU processing on the current clip failed because of an error.

Can someone help me with a workaround or setting I can use to help me here? Is there an issue with GPU utilization in 17 beta? Let me know what I can provide to help troubleshooting.

Thanks for your help!

Couple ideas.

1. Go to Preferences>User>UI Settings and uncheck the last Stop renders option.

2. Use the new Render in Place feature on the clips with NR before export.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
