Flickering video after adjusting gain

PostWed Feb 17, 2021 9:14 pm

DR Beta version 17.0B Build 33.

A short mp4 clip. I adjust the gain just a little then the video randomly flickers, dips in brightness a few times a second or once a second on playback.

Can you share the clip?

You'd have to upload to a file sharing site and post the download link here.

Never mind. I just tried to make a clip to upload. I used the same original--everything and now no flicker. I already deleted the evidence :(
But good news it its working ok now. I hope its not an intermittent thing!

Ok, just re-created flicker. Steps were:

Import mp4 file. In Edit, trim start and end time, add 2 seconds fad to both ends, then went to color and added .09 gain.

And FYI, if I edit gain first and then trim ends in edit, there is no flicker.

John, is that the original clip, or an export from Resolve?

(I was asking for an original, so we could test.)

Import file. In Edit, trim start and end time, add 2 seconds fad to color both ends, then go to color and added gain. play, it will be flickering.

and FTI, if I edit gain first then trim, it wont flicker.

OK.

I can't duplicate this in Studio 17b9 for Windows. No matter how I do it, no flicker. So I'm leaning towards a GPU/driver issue with your system.

What model GPU are you using? What driver version?

I am using Studio 17b9.
I have a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2080 Super Turbo with the latest driver (Nvidia Studio Driver 461.40). Windows 10 64bit.

this is the first and only time I have seen that issue so I don't know.

I just tried on another file and same thing. I can re-create the issues every time.

Trim in edit first. then as soon as I touch the gain the flicker starts, you can see the flicker very good in the Scopes/Waveform.

I wouldn't expect that card/driver to cause any issues.

There's got to be something else specific to your system, so...let's go fishing.

Is this a dedicated editing system? No games, email, office, security, development?

No USB devices attached other than mouse or keyboard?

Monitor plugged into the GPU, not the mobo?

Any I/O devices?

and I know its not my computer because if I adjust gain first and then trim there is no issue. I can recreate the error each time and then just change work flow and no error, so that makes it DR.

But I can't. Which suggests it may not be the software.

Or at least, that it may be more difficult for BMD to pin down if it is.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

no worries. if I adjust the gain before I trim its fine. if I don't have to use the gain there are no issues at all.
