how to separate fusion graphics from footage for grade?

PostThu Feb 18, 2021 12:02 am

hi there,

so my situation: Resolve studio 16

I have video clip, and in the fusion tab I've added some motion graphics, some titles, a photo to it.

In the color tab, I want to be able to grade the video clip separate from all the graphics/text/photos etc. So that grading the video does not affect the motion graphics, and grading the motion graphics does not affect the video.

I know this is possible because I've seen a few examples where people have used multiple sources in the color tab and then a layer node to combine separate streams back into one. But I don't know how to go about setting up my fusion node structure to make this work.

I've attached an example of my current fusion node structure. If someone can explain how to do this is would be wonderful!

Many thanks in advance.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

hi,

thank you for the reply, I appreciate it.

I guess this is a sort of work around - and i will have a bash with it, but it doesn't really get to what im striving for. I know it is possible to do it the way i described (as I've seen others do so) I'm just not familiar enough with node pipelines to figure it out.

Cheers

yes! this! I just don't know how to set up the fusion end of it, so that all my motion graphics output like that

as in, how do i layout my nodes so that my text and images go out to a mediaout2, and the video footage goes to mediaout1. I figure i have to use the motion graphics etc etc as an alpha channel, but i just don't have the knowhow to make it work. and hours of internet browsing hasn't gotten me any closer than this!

You must merge text and graphics together first (TEXT TEN merge with TEXT FIVE, merge that over IMAGE_Century), so that you can pipe merged text + image separately to mediaout2.

mediain1 goes straight to mediaout1

Media storage:"Always in motion is it"

For economy sake, you can pipe TRANSPERENT BACKGROUND into Merge2 background (yellow triangle) and TEXT TEN to foreground (green) and get rid of merge1. You could also merge Mediain1 as FG and merge4 as BG to see the the final overlay in Fusion tab.

but that's basically it...

I would just put my text and graphics on an adjustment layer, so I could grade them separately from underlying footage
