Basic stuff: Proxy, optimized and 1080 timeline for 4k

PostThu Feb 18, 2021 12:33 am

Hi. Getting the hang of DR (sort of) but still not sure of some very basics.

My source is 4k prores. Here are my shaky assumptions...

Proxy media format should be set to DNxHR HQX. The performance and editing quality is basically the same as using prores proxy, which is not available for my Windows machine.

With proxy, optimized is not needed.

Proxy media resolution has no bearing on final render quality. It is for edit viewing performance.

For viewing on a 1080 monitor, editing 4k footage on a 1080 timeline has no drawbacks. All resolution is recovered in final render at 4k.

How did I do?
Resolve Studio 18.6.6 Build 7
Win 10 Home (22H2) 19045.2728

ASRock X570 Taichi w/TB3 AIC R2.0
ASUS ProArt PA248QV 24.1
2 Acer 1080p LCDs
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
32GB DDR4
GeForce RTX 4090 24GB

Apple ProRes and ProRes RAW
Lots of fast SSDs

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
