"Free" Mac App Store DaVinci Resolve Enabled Copy Protection

PostThu Feb 18, 2021 11:40 pm

Hi:

Blackmagic's free Mac App store version of the "DaVinci Resolve" application has a "copy protection" flag enabled preventing mass distribution without manual re-verification of the original Apple ID that downloaded it. We are distributing the "DaVinci Resolve" application in a student lab environment and this doesn't work with mass distribution. Why is Blackmagic enabling the "copy inhibit" on a free Mac App store application?

Most likely it is due to ignorance on what this flag does and they just enabled it to be safe ;-)

Blackmagic Developers please fix this issue, so, we can mass distribute the application in our student environment.

This is the only free "Mac App" application we are seeing this issue. And have only seen it with a very few commercial "Mac App" applications.

Is there a reason you're not using the free download from the Blackmagic website?

We only use the download version in our Mac student labs for several reasons:

– More functionality
– Availability of beta versions (on the Mac, these are normally working pretty well)
– Faster availability of final versions
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

MacOS 13.7.4, 2017 iMac, 32 GB, Radeon Pro 580 + eGPU
