setting up collaboration server on linux

PostFri Feb 19, 2021 12:23 pm

1) i am trying to set up a Collaboration Database server on an Ubuntu 20 machine. ideally i just want the postgres database on this machine - i don't need a full copy of Resolve because the machine is a server and will never normally be used to do desktop activities. is this possible? could i even set up a vanilla postgres server (of the right version) and connect to that? that would be the most elegant.

2) if one does need to install Resolve in order to create a collaboration db server, can i use the free Resolve or does the collab server have to be the studio version? i have seen some people say that it is not necessary to use the Studio version for the database server (which would be helpful as i am using all my Resolve licences currently) - only for the machines which will connect to it (which is fine as we need the Studio version on the desktop for several reasons).

3) when i installed the studio version of resolve (17 beta 9) on ubuntu 20 i could not find any trace of the Project Server having been installed. what might i be doing wrong? perhaps it is there, but i just cannot find it - there is no icon for it as one would see on windows.

thanks, julian

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

the previous reply post tells me that this is a 17 beta matter. actually, i have been seeing the same error with the collaboration/project server for years, but i will transfer this matter to the beta forum.
