Sick of this.

PostFri Feb 19, 2021 11:33 pm

System:

iMac i9 late 2020
32Gb ram
Internal and external SSD measured at approx 550Mb/s read/write
Resolve Studio 17.9 public beta, fresh install after backing up db
No other apps running
Cache written to separate SSD from source footage

Problem:

New project
Import 11 clips HD (1920x1080) Sony .MXF Slog Cine3, approx 5min duration each.
Time taken to build waveforms and thumbnails/filmstrips in Media bins: 17mins
Yes, 17 minutes.

Comparison:

Exact same 11 clips imported into fresh FCPX project, from same source drive, build thumbnails and waveforms: 12 seconds.
Yes. 12 seconds.

It's not like this is some exotic, oversized 12-bit mega load. This is simple, common HD footage. My PHONE loads 4k, 50 times faster than this. My drives are clean; known to be reliable; regularly optimized with DiskWarrior. I do this for a living.

I'm presenting at the next LA Blackmagic Collective, and I intend to demo this exact project to an audience of Resolve skeptics. Wish me luck.

...and when they do FINALLY appear... there's no waveforms in the Source Tape view AT ALL. Playback is stuttery (remembers this is only unprocessed HD, not 8K with grading and NR...)

I'm SO glad I bought the Speed Editor, because now I'm even slower at rough cuts than 17.8, 17.5, 17.3...

Why does nobody listen or react from BMD? I'm posting this as a new thread JUST to try an get SOMEONE'S attention.

Can you link to one downloadable clip? Or a dummy clip of some kind which doesn't violate copyright or confidentiality? You say you're sick of it, so presumably the same occurred with 16.x?

How’s the I/O to the SSD to which you’re caching? You mention keeping cache and originals separate, but not which interface you use for each. I cache to my internal system SSD because it’s faster than TB3. This goes against conventional wisdom, but depending on your system, may improve performance.

17 minutes is not normal, though.

A sample clip, logs and drp might help to find the issue.
Doesn’t sound normal.
