Multiple video files, single audio file - how to sync?

Searching through here and googling seems to result in Resolve not being able to do this... but here goes:

I record my video using a GH4, which spits out multiple video files broken up to about 4gb each. So a 15 minute video will be 3 or 4 video files. I record audio to an external recorder. In FCP you just drop these in, make a compound clip of the videos, auto sync that compound clip to the audio and bang you have a single clip that has synced audio to a long video file.

Premiere Pro's workflow is similar to FCP. Takes a few seconds to accomplish.

Neither device (GH4 or audio recording) has timecode. It shouldn't need it. If DR can only sync on timecode then why is waveform syncing even in the menu? There is a clapper at the front of both the audio and video's audio track. It is a very very clear audio and video's audio track.

I have tried
- making a compound clip of the video files, adding that to a timeline, adding the audio then selecting the compound clip and the audio. I get the 'Auto Sync Failed - No Match was found' dialog.
- making a multicam of the compound clip and the audio, choosing angle sync on sound. I get the same error.

I am the first to admit I am a newbie to Resolve, but really, it shouldn't be this difficult (read: impossible). I want to switch from FCP, but right now Premiere Pro seems a better option than Resolve.

Assuming u r on v17 beta 9, try putting one video clip and on audio clip on the edit timeline and selecting them, right click to auto sync by audio waveform
If that works, add more clips till it doesn’t work and then tackle that issue.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for the first clip! I am not quite sure why.
What I have discovered is that in in 17b a single video works with syncing, but a compound clip does not. Even if the first clip is the single clip.

I have found that Resolve doesn't sync "nat sound" and "board feeds" very well. It works far better when both clips have the exact same audio.

It won't take but a few seconds to sync manually if you have a clapper.

On a current project I was surprised how well DR handled a situation where one camera had clear sound wired to it and the other one was only recording the internal mics from the room and was not even turned up. I had to increase the volume considerably and then it was full of background noise. Nevertheless, DR 17 synced it just fine for about twenty clips but one.
OTOH, it was a single voice. Until now, PluralEyes used to be my choice for critical situations like this.

I have a GoPro H8, H3 and a Lumix G80 and a Zoom H4n field recorder. I fly a Piper PA28 and mount the cameras in the cockpit to get various aspects and views of the flight in progress.

The cameras are set to record their own sounds and the H4n to record cockpit audio between the ATC, cockpit intercom and ambient sounds.

After the shoot I upload all footage and audio to Resolve 17b9 (free) using my thunderbolt drive as the scratch disk. I select all clips and audio and generate a multicam clip for editing at 1080p 24fps

With very few exceptions Resolve seems to sync everything perfectly.
