HI all,

I've never used Resolve before, but succeeded in getting hardware-enough to get the program to start. Given the whispers about version 17 being very hardware hungry (in terms of GPU), and wanting a minimum cost config, I went with Resolve version 16.

However, when I start it up and try to import the project from the ATEM, it shows "media offline". The ISO files that the ATEM put out are exactly where it put them, one directory down under the location of the project file itself. I've tried importing the project with resolve already open, and I've simply clicked on the project and started resolve that way. I get the same effect either way round.

I have also tried to import the media explicitly after opening the project. This was interesting in that the video files don't seem to load, but the audio file does, and is overlaid on the project.

Can anyone tell me how I'm supposed to perform this very basic action?

Hmmmm.

This is sounding a bit like a Free version issue, where the media requires the Studio version to work.

Thanks for chipping in with this. My imagination is interpreting this as "you can't actually use the free version", which surely must be wrong (mustn't it?! )

Does the media need to be in a particular directory or something? I know the tool I use (Lightworks) has a free version that requires projects to be in a particular place, but it'll import media for that project from wherever you like, so I could see that being a potential source of trouble.

Maybe it has to be in a particular place to start with? I guess I could try some variations...

Try creating a new project from scratch and Importing one of the ISO clips. Report back.

(And no, where media is stored doesn't matter.)

Hi Toby

Straight forward. It should not be like that regardless if you have the studio or free version.

When you open the Hard disk where the Atem Mini Pro ISO is saving to, can you see the ISO folders for video and audio? Any chance to share a print screen?

Make sure you are on the latest software for everything.

Unplug power from your atem, press and hold the ON button for mic input 1, plug power to the device, release the ON button. While doing all of that have the device connected via USB to your computer.

Open the Atem Software, you should see a message that an unknown device has been connected. Proceed with the prompt to make the update.

Try again and see if it now works.

Thanks Jim, I seem to be able to import media (kinda, sorta). When I do so with an audio file, it comes in and I can play it in a variety of tools. But when I import video, all I see is silent black rectangles. But a) it makes no indication of media being offline (which seems like an improvement) and b) it lets me "make a timeline" from it (however, that timeline also seems to be black and silent). It gives the impression that I can "play" the clip; if I do so, there's a timer that runs, but nothing else.

I notice that for the video clip the file infomation is pretty dubious. One example that I have in front of me indicates a Start TC and End TC of -23:08:05:00 (so start and end are the same negative value) and the duration is 00:15:46:00. The audio file that is paired with that has Start TC: 15:32:35:01, End TC: 15:48:21:01, and duration 00:15:46:00. I wonder if this is significant. I will add that all these files were created by the ATEM Mini Pro ISO, and have not been edited in anything before being brought into resolve.

Is there a particular/clean/easy way for me to gather all the relevant info that I should use (e.g.) output from some part of the program?

If not, here's what I have:
Ryzen 7 3700X
32Gb RAM
GeForce GT 730 -- 2Gb
- nvidia-driver-460

I'm not expecting this to be fast, I have another NLE that I use, and my main interest is in taking the ATEM Mini Pro ISO's resolve project and transferring it to that via one of the export modes (I know this can be done, because many of the users of the NLE that I use discuss this process as they prefer resolve's color grading That said I'm investigating whether I might interested in using this instead of, or in addition to, my regular NLE.

Indeed, it occurs to me that it might not even matter about the media being offline for an export, though of course I can't discover anything else about this software without resolving the issue, so I'd still appreciate the chance to get it working, and therefore, any help you can give.

Well, yeah, everyone seems to say "you need the very latest, greatest, hardware to run this" but I would make two observations on that

a) this is resolve 16 I'm trying, not 17, which seems to be where the reputation says things got crazy
b) I studied the requirement specs with a fine tooth comb, and it complies with everything I could find. It supports CUDA 11, it has 2Gb memory, and it has a new-enough nvidia driver.

But if it's not good enough, surely it should either say so, or perhaps would simply run horribly slowly? I had a card previously that was older, and resolve said it didn't like that, and shutdown immediately after that message was acknowledged.

Ah well, I'm open to any other ideas that I can try. I can't help thinking this has something to do with me not knowing anything about how to use this software (I admit I find the UI very unfamiliar and I'm being lazy about reading the enormous manual!)

It occurs to me that in the meantime, I shall erase resolve 16 and install 17 just in case the new ATEM writes files the older resolve doesn't like. It'll also be a fresh install, so if I've made any mistakes to this point that are confusing things, those errors will be wiped away (I remember something about a database, and have no clue what that was, but perhaps I messed it up).

Yeah, 3000+ pages is...daunting.

That said, a new nVidia GPU with 8GB or more of memory would be on my Must Do list. (If you can find one!)

Well, I have installed/built CUDA 11.2, and the deviceQuery runs and shows my card, but resolve 17 refuses to see it. Giving up on that one. Will go back and try 16 one more time.

Nope, nothing going on here. It still shows any video media I drag into place as being offline
