"Softness" crop tool in DaVinci Resolve 17 Beta

Just wanted to bring up an issue I'm having in the beta.

I have a shot where I use the crop tool with softness in order to do a composite of two images. The feathering in 16 is now a white streak of light in 17 beta.

Just wanted to bring this up for future updates, and see if anyone has a fix

Yeah, this still happens in beta 9.
The beta 9 fixed the "transparent overlay of the cropped part" issue, but there are still issues remaining.

For the softness issue, the workaround of adding an alpha out on the color page still works and allow for the soft transition to work.

But there is still an issue where you can get a thin white or black border (and jagged white/black border is you use rotation) and for that one, no work around that I could find.

Since it's now a full release as DR17, I just wanted to comment that we are still having a different experience with softness on the edit page cropping. Is this like the 'new way' that it is supposed to be or a bug?

Can you do the following please?

a. A minimal project archive: Duplicate the project, remove the other clips, retaining just the one that shows you this behavior. So ideally we have just 1 clip and 1 timeline in the media pool. Adjust the settings in the inspector to show this behavior and export a DRA archive from the project manager.

b. logs. Help menu > Create Diagnostic Logs on Desktop.

Please share a link from where we can access the files from a and b. Please include some information on the OS, Resolve (studio/free), hardware, GPU processing mode and drivers that you're using in the post.

I am having this same behavior. I can import any image onto my timeline, crop it any amount and any side, then add softness and it doesn't feather out, it just crops it a bit more. This issue was introduced in Resolve 17 Beta 8, everything worked fine in Beta 7.

I notice this only happens when there's nothing on the background-- with a clip under it, the softness works. Also, changing Composite Mode to any other method besides Normal OR changing Composite Mode Opacity to less than 100 fixes it for scrubbing, playback & export, but still shows the issue when paused.

One thing that completely fixes (paused & playing) it is to add certain effects on the clip (ones that support alpha, or any Fusion effect). But disabling the 'Usa Alpha" (when that option is present) on that effect brings the issue back.

Still not fixed in 17 final release. What a shame...
