Limitation on tracking pan footage?

PostThu Feb 25, 2021 9:07 am

Hi,

I use very often the masking and tracking function in the COLOR page/window.
Mostly it works, even Resolve doesn't have a edge recognition for automatic adjust the masking during tracking, like e.g. ColorDirector (Cyberlink) could do that.

So I have manual adjust the masks during tracking with Resolve.

PROBLEM: clips with longer pans are stopping tracking on one point. It is not possible to further track the clip; also not manual. If I adjust the mask on the stopping point manually, the whole masks gets wrong from the beginning.

Is there a limitation in Resolve build in, that the mask with longer pans is too "big" (e.g. pan over landscapes)?
How do you deal with that kind of problem?

I'm a little unclear on exactly what you're describing, but maybe it's this:....?

When you use the tracker it inserts a keyframe at the very beginning and the very end of the clip. If you're tracking something that goes offscreen (or comes onscreen) midway through the clip, you manually adjust the tracker so that it tracks all the way offscreen. But you have to also go to that very first or very last keyframe and make sure you adjust it there too, otherwise it'll just drift back onscreen again because that's the position that was initially set at for the first or last keyframe.
