Revert back to DR 16 from 17

I installed 16.2.8 a few weeks ago and have been exploring DR and loving it. I got a pop-up this morning stating free upgrade to DR 17 so I went for it. Well, it didn't seem as stable on my laptop so I uninstalled all the files and tried to put 16.2.58 back on. I got the ' A newer version is installed......etc' error message. Not sure how that's possible but I can't install 16.
I figured I'd put 17 back on and the installer went through the paces and it seemed to install fully but there's no folder C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve
No desktop shortcut, no 'Start' menu shortcut or anything.
My laptop is a 2019 Asus VivoBook 15 with Windows 10 Pro.
What is the next step? I would really like DR 16 back.
