Choppy H265 playback in v17.1 beta

PostFri Feb 26, 2021 5:44 am

So I am on the latest build as far as I know

Studio 17.1B Build 21

Yet H265 is very choppy on playback - wanted to test this because I saw a notification that h.265 support was included

Truth is, yes, my GPU is being utilized whereas before this version, it was as if I had no GPU. So I welcome the slight bump in usage - which is not much

In 1080p 10bit 4:2:2 H.265 the GPU max is is like 9% and the CPU is at a whopping 50%
In 4k, 10 bit 422, I cant playback in a useful way. My GPU is at 12% max and my CPU is at 100%. Disappointed - but I am now wondering if there's an issue with my CPU.

Regular 4K h264 works. Anyone else got through with playing h265 with better GPU utilization?

without all your system detail we can only guess its a system performance issue.

I believe 4:2:2 is not supported for GPU decoding AFAIK so CPU does all the action. If there is no action in GPU's decode graph then GPU is not doing anything.
