Is this PC ok for DVR 17 ?

PostFri Feb 26, 2021 12:41 pm

Hello,
Could you please tell me if my pc is strong enough to work on tutorials videos (1080p) using 4k rushes with greenscreen and many text and drawing animations in fusion?
If not, what would you recommand? (Change something or choose for a better workstation)
(I began to work on a project but DVR seems slow and it needs to render cache a lot even on simple fusion animation like drawing a circle on an png image)
Thx a lot! Merci!

Hi.

I don't know if you use Google Translate? What I find OK.

I will expect your PC is strong enough to work on tutorials videos (1080p).

But for 4K work will I suggest a new modern stronger graphics card, not more that 2 years old, if you can find one in Stock?

And for fusion will I recommend a much stronger CPU with more cores.

Regards Carsten.

Yeah, I agree about the graphics card - if you have any issues that's where they'll be. You probably want something with at least 8GBytes of video memory, and the more the merrier.

i have a z620 at home with a 2660v2 (10c) / 2070s / 64g / Decklink4kPro /Lsi raid controler with 8x2Tb WD_RedPro via SAS

one could fit all of those into a z420 - if the PS holds up under load + you have enough cool air around the machine to let it flow through

Have a lot of 4k and UHD projects through this machine in the last year without much issues

will be replaceing the 2070s with a 3060/12g as soon as i can get one, think the 2660v2 is a good trade off of power consumtion and heat -vs- speed

but i can render at my studio on much faster machines, so rarely export anything but a screener from the machine at home

Thank you for your answers
I will look for a new graphic card
I just used an external ssd drive for caches and the renderings are faster

A new GPU may not get you much performance improvement with Fusion. What you have now should be okay for basic editing/grading of 4K material on HD timelines, or relatively simple 4K timelines.

If Fusion animation is where you're seeking better performance, do some more research. Generally, you need to look to the CPU and RAM.

Yes I need to make many animations in fusion, thx for this advice!
I wonder if the performance problems were not due to a missing ssd external disk
I'll make more tries, tomorrow!

The reason for recommending a better video card isn't for performance, it's so that he can do his animations without running out of video memory. I've run out of video memory on my 4GB video card doing 1080p animations, so I well know there are limitations there.
