Unlike Macs, Windows can mess up installs if you don't uninstall previous versions first. It's up to you. Personally I always uninstall previous versions first. As to the Database, make sure you do a backup of it in version 16.xxx before upgrading to 17. Databases between the two are not compatible and version 17 will ask you to upgrade the Database.
