srt - it doesn't work

PostFri Feb 26, 2021 6:46 pm

Hi All,

Just finished a video - with subs as srt.

But the only place the srt works/show is on Youtube?

I have tested on Linkedin, Vimeo, VLC Player, Films & TV (by Windows), but no subs shows when playing?

And my client experienced the same. When testing video and srt in 'Films & TV', the subs doesn't show?

Not good. Please help.

Cheers

SRT sidecar file should be named the same as video file (with .srt extension)

In the Delivery page, did you look in the Export Subtitle section, and in the Format area, tick the Burn into Video box?

That’s something completely different!
SRT files allow the user to switch subtitles off or change the language.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Just name your srt file with the same name as your video file, and put in in the same folder.

Example :

my_video.mp4
my_video.srt

IF you have multiple srt with different languages, use this format :

my_video.eng.srt
my_video.fre.srt
my_video.spa.srt

It should be picked up automatically by most media-players.
If the srt are in a different folder than the video file, you have to select it manually (with the only advantage to give it another name)

I don't remember why I choose this format for the language with 3 letters instead of two. I think it was because my media player didn't displayed the full name of the language at the time, and I continued to use it that way since.

Thanks guys.

I tried to name video and srt the same, but it's still not working ...?

I even upgraded to DR 17.

This should just be butter smooth and easy, but ...????

Very frustrating.

I just checked your files.
Look at the timestamps :

1
01:00:00,000 --> 01:00:04,208
Cibicom’s new flexible slimline® towers
are fast to deploy.

2
01:00:04,750 --> 01:00:09,666
The carbon footprint is reduced with up to 40 %
compared to standard solutions.

They start at 01:xx:xx,xxx - The video clip is one minute.
It should be : 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,208, etc.

Your timeline starts at 01:00:00:00 (I personally changed it in the settings) I guess it's why when you exported the the subtitles, they started at 01.

Just do a quick search and replace 01:00 by 00:00 in a text editor, it should work (I tested in with VLC).

I don't know why it's 01 by default. I always found odd to see the timeline starting at "one hour".

Thanks for the info.
I'm curious, in this day and age, is it still used this way by the majority of users?

If not, wouldn't it be better to have people that need this particular setting the change it for themselves, instead of the opposite way? (just to know more about this stuff).
