Lost projects with the upgrade 16 to 17

I upgraded to davinci without thinking about it, and up until now had no idea of the data base backup. Now, when I open the program it ask me to upgrade the database but that I should backup first. The database is empty so I don't know what to do.
Maybe the projects are still there just not showing right now?
Should I uninstall and reinstall Davinci for an opportunity of my projects to be safe or should I risk to upgrade the database and hope they appear as usual?
Or none of this matter because there is no database backup and I have lost everything?
