Hiding jump cuts in a Zoom edit

PostSat Feb 27, 2021 1:42 pm

In the days before lockdown I made videos of actor friends performing small cast plays.

Three cameras synced so after a fluff/stop/start there was always a new camera to avoid a jump cut.

My friends are now doing plays using Zoom. Four or five characters on a screen and clever use of greenscreen to make it look as if they are in the same room.

One take is all they allow themselves - hoping they get from start to end without a fracas!

What if they could stop and start and leave it to me to remove the rubbish?

Google has lots of folk trimming Zoom videos to avoid the dross but I have yet to find anyone bothered by jump cuts. Inevitably the problem is that, when all the characters are on the screen, any cut is going to look obvious. My first thought is to crop the out shot to one person and crop the in shot to another actor. Whether the definition of Zoom is good enough I have yet to see.

Has anyone around here tried and found a solution?

Tony
