Can’t install Fairlight sound library? fixed

PostSat Feb 27, 2021 3:28 pm

I’ve downloaded the Fairlight sound library file, opened it and gone through the installation process which results in a little green checkbox that says installation successful.

When I do a search in the sound library search box using ***, I can get some other sound effects that I have to show up, but no fairlight Files. When I do a file search for “fairlight sound library” Nothing is returned other than a command line text file called: “Install_sound_library.sh”

I thought I read somewhere that the library installs in the “movie“ folder. However there’s no evidence of it being there.

Any ideas what to try next?

I’m running Resolve 17 studio (new, non-beta)

Did you install the Fairlight Sound Library in to an existing database?
i.e. the same database as the one containing your Projects?

Was a dedicated database used for the Sound Library (either a disk or Postgres database)?

If the Fairlight Sound Library is installed on a unique database, expand the Sound Library to expose the database selection and select the required SFX database.

I simply downloaded The fairlight sound library from the Blackmagic website, Opened the compressed file double clicked and went through the installation process. The alert said that it would be installed on the system hard drive. (Mac) There were no instructions that said anything about creating a database.

But the thing that has me scratching my head is that The installer said that The installation had been successful and a systemwide search indicates that no seems to be installed anywhere.

There was no information or README file in the installation process that said anything about needing to create A special database, so if that is necessary it seems like there’s a lot of room for confusion.

Is the Fairlight Sound Library available under the database selection drop-down?

Assuming you used the Fairlight Sound Library installer from the Support page or did you use the “Install Fairlight Sound Library” button within the Sound Library panel?

Please expand the database drop-down to reveal all the active databases.

Yes, I used the installer from the Blackmagic support page. All looked normal with installer including
green check at the end that says "installation successful"

If I expand the drop down window, it shows one other project database, no Sound Library database as in your
photo. At any rate shouldn't the sound library folder be detectable on the system hard drive where the installer said it installed it?

If installed correctly, the Fairlight Sound Library will be available in the following directory containing a "Database" and "Media Files" folder: /Users/Home/Movies/Fairlight Sound Library

Yes, that’s exactly where I understood it should be. It’s not there. Even though I went through the established installation process and got the final screen that said the installation was a success.

I’ll re-download, and reinstall as the next step.

Appreciate your help. Will keep you posted.

Found four copies of the Fairlight sound library all of which were under 100 kb and contained no data. Renamed them "library.old" and it deleted the command line file. Re-download the file from within Fairlight opened and installed it. All is well. Not sure what the source of the original problem was.

I know you found a coincidental fix, but I am posting this here in case somebody else runs into this same issue.

The root cause of this issue seems to be an unreported folder access error.
After the installation,
a zip file "FairlightSoundLibrary.zip"
as well as a bash file "install_fairlight_sound_library.sh"
was copied to: "/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Prereqs"

in the contents of the bash file you can see that it has the instructions to copy and unzip the sound library.

running it manually, you are likely to see the folder access error.

this bash file also creates a config file: .soundlibrary
at location: "/Users/???/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve"
this file will contain the folder location to where the sound library is unzipped.

The solution:
1. manually unzip the sound library file to anywhere you want
2. manually create the file "/Users/???/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/.soundlibrary"
3. edit the .soundlibrary file and add the folder path of the unzipped sound library as the first and only line in the file
4. restart Davinci Resolve

Hi, I have the same problem with the installation of the sound library. I tried different things but it didn‘t work out.

The solution:
1. manually unzip the sound library file to anywhere you want
2. manually create the file "/Users/???/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/.soundlibrary"
3. edit the .soundlibrary file and add the folder path of the unzipped sound library as the first and only line in the file

Can anybody explain this in more detail?

I don‘t know how to execute points 2 and 3.

Greetings and thanks in advance,
Thorsten

I encountered similar problem.
How I solved mine was actually very simple.
After the SUCCESSFUL installation, what I did not do ws to ADD the LIBRARY (silly me).

to do that simply follow the below steps

so i have the same problem... x10, i went through the same process, until it said installation succesful, and then i clicked the three dots in the corner in sound library in davinci resolve, but the thing is, every single file on there is greyed out, every single file. not one file is importable, and i checked my storage before i installed the library and after, it was the same after as before, 86gb apps and 78gb documents, even after the 1.12gb install, i've tried to download the library over 5 times and still nothing, does not show up anywhere, and it is not installed, only thing that is installed is the file when you first download from the blackmagic website and the installer, nothing else. what is this?????

You don't say what OS you are using. If it is installed properly in Windows it will appear in Programs and Features labelled Fairlight Sound Library.

This is what you should see after entering 3 x * in the Search box. All the FX should be shown and clicking on one will highlight it and put it in the Play field.
