Lost project when upgrading from davince resolve 16 to 17

PostSun Feb 28, 2021 2:26 am

Hi, please help! I was working on the project in davinci resolve 16 and then realized that the newer davinci resolve 17 version is available. I have downloaded it, but accidently instead of downloading free version I have downloaded the "studio" paid version of davince resolve 17. Now I cant open davince and thus have lost access to my project.

From what I understand, I need to delete davinci resolve studio 17 in order to download davince resolve 17(free), but if I do that, all my projects will be lost.

I have thought of few solutions:

1.
I have found my project at C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Disk Database\Resolve Projects\Users\guest\Projects in the form of Project.db file. Will saving this file and then uploading it in to the newly installed version of davinci will be sufficient to save my project?

2. I can do a system restore(windows 10) in order to restore the point before installing the davinci resolve studio 17, I am not sure that in this way project will be secure?

If you did not do the Database upgrade when you installed 17 you can uninstall it and re-install 16. Your project database will still be there. The project database in 16 is not compatible with 17, and vice versa.
