Problems With Proxy Media Playback

PostSun Feb 28, 2021 8:18 pm

I am continually trying to work with Resolve but playback is a consistent issue for me. Nothing is simple and BMD really needs to up its game here. It has many fantastic features. I have bought 2 copies of Studio and I thought Proxy Media generation would be the answer to a lot of issues when trying to edit quickly. There are always work arounds. I am used to Premiere and pretty much what ever file you put on the timeline it plays it pretty well. You need proxies too to work super quickly but you don't seem to have to go through as many hoops. Anyway my big grump for today is poor playback again!

I have a 5k timeline and RED footage. I created 1/4 prores proxy files. Tiny little things for my iMac Pro. But low and behold I selected Optical Flow for the interpolation of a clip and it will not play anywhere near smoothly. I even selcted 1/4 resolution from the Proxy Playback menu item and I just got a rubbish resolution play back in stacatto fashion.

It is no good Renering in Place either because I am trying to fix a cut so may need to lengthen to clip. I guess I'll just have to take the optical flow off and add it again at the end. so long as I remember.

Unless anyone can provide an answer as to why this is happening I will struggle on....

Well, R3D is demanding, as is optical flow. Set the RAW decoding to 1/4 and use caching.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
