Using Proxy Media for playback: unusable audio

PostMon Mar 01, 2021 12:34 am

Hi-

relatively new user here, just updated to Resolve 17 release, on macOS Big Sur.

I'm assuming that proxy media is advantageous to use over optimized (as I do shift between computers) - I can see how to relink generated proxies, and one day will play with setting the proxy location to a network share.

When I enable "use proxies for playback" in the playback menu:
- audio is played at the wrong speed (~0.75? speed)
- I think the audio trim points are also wrong (not matching the video)

Audio is in sync with the video if I disable "use proxy media". Audio is also correct if I enable "use optimized media." (I'm referring to the options in the playback menu.)

As well, if I enable "timeline proxy mode" to half or quarter and have "use proxy media" enabled for playback, sometimes the video clips are displayed at 50% or 25% size.

I've set the project settings to several of the ProRes options, and auto/half/quarter resolution, for both proxies and optimized clips.

As well, tried clearing the render cache and proxy location multiple times, reloaded the project, and even restarted the Mac. I originally thought it was something to do with importing a project created on a PC but have replicated it with a new project, using the same input clips.

Am I misunderstanding proxies or are they quite broken right now?

(I'm pretty sure this is similar to a setup I used on a PC last week, that worked incredibly well with proxies enabled. It would have been the last beta release for windows. I don't have that machine available right now to verify I really was using the proxies. I was live editing in front of groups of kids, cutting together their creations from the previous week. It was only the third or fourth time I've used Resolve, and the first time to use the cut page. So there's a good chance I modified the proxy media settings but forgot to actually generate the proxies.)

Thanks in advance!
