Resolve 17 and 17.1 crashing within minutes.

PostMon Mar 01, 2021 9:47 am

Hi forum.

My Resolve has become unusable. It started with the upgrade to 17.0 (from 17B9), I looked for the latest version and found 17.1B10, this also only lasts a few operations.

Today I started with a new Disk Database - in case this was the issue - sadly after a couple of minutes it crashed.

Essentially the crashes happen as I open an existing timeline, or try to add a timeline to another time line.

I attach the 17 and 17.1 logs.

Regards

Andy

Dearest Forum

I had to go back to an older project today - and of interest Resolve behaved perfectly.

The two projects that crash within a minute both use Canon 8K Raw from the EOS R5.

Crashes started happening after a minor update to Big Sur - before that I was happily working with Canon 8K Raw footage.

There are many of these details in the logs as well.

The file type is 'CRM' from an EOS R5. The crashes are very reliable on a double click of a time line, but also adding to the time line or wiping over the timeline.

Another update:

I've found that all NEW projects crash - regardless of camera types used.

So thinking it was an external issue - I tried two things:

a) Reset UI Layout (did not help)
b) Deleting the cache location and creating a new one --- so far (15 minutes!) Resolve has stayed stable.

I checked on the disk space of the original cache area it was a 30TB drive that had about 0.5TB free space. I noticed that deleting the old cache area took several minutes - so I guess there were many many small files in there.

Did you delete the cache by hand?

I did delete the cache by hand.

The crashes are back, here are a couple diagnostics.

If you don't use the original files from Canon, but some other media, does it crashes?

Re: Fixed - Resolve 17 and 17.1 crashing within minutes

Dear Forum.

I've spent a happy 5 minutes double clicking on timelines and switching projects at a furious rate.

Resolve 17.1 build 24 seems to have fixed this issue.

Regards

Andy
