Noob FPS help

PostMon Mar 01, 2021 11:57 am

Hi all.

I'm a total novice, in that I only use Resolve to edit some podcasts and drop in a few overlays every now and then and perhaps a slight tweak to colouring here and there.

I'm using an iMac 27" 4.2GHz i7 with 24GB of RAM and the Radeon Pro 580 8GB graphics, so it's more than enough for the basics.

My problem; I had 3 clips from a day out with my drone yesterday, 2 of which are 4k60fps (59.94) and the third clip is 1080p30 (29.97) because for some reason when you use one of the "quickshot" buttons on the drone it likes to use completely different settings to make my life more difficult. So, I drop the 3 clips into the timeline, and the first 4k60 clip I CMD+R to speed it up to 150% and the other two clips are fine as-is. The project is set to 4K and 59.94fps... now... the sped up clip won't playback at all without stuttering like mad, the 1080p clip is exactly the same, but then the untouched 4k60 clip plays flawlessly.

If I change the 1080p clip's fps in clip attributes and re-assign it, it plays back fine but obviously then needs to be retimed, which brings me back to the issue of it not playing back without stuttering and spluttering. If I set "render cache" to smart or user, it spends ages going from red to blue, and then still stutters and splutters regardless. Doesn't seem to matter if I Generate Optimized Media or Render Cache Color Output, it still stutters and splutters.

I feel like there must be some easy tick-box or setting that can help me here but all the forum/google searches don't seem to help. Perhaps someone here can help?
