I'm pretty certain you could turn on a column for optimized media in 16.. it's now gone in 17? Due to proxies? As it turns out proxies have sound issues on nonproject frame rates...

Bumping.
How are we supposed to tell if a clip has optimized media?

You can't. Use proxies if you want to know, things have changed in 17.

The optimized media feature still prominently exists and should be supported until it doesn't exist, especially when proxies are broken.

From 17 version the pro about optimized media is that they're shared in every project inside the same database. The con is that you can't no longer see the optimized media created to the column in media page...

Still no optimized media column in 17.1.

But it's insane!
Why is there no information about optimized media?
After all, the program knows which clip has optimized media!
Why is it not showing this information to the user?
This completely destroys the ability to manage optimized media.
Now management does not exist!
There is one option - delete everything!
It's insane!

It's definitely a problem.
I'm hoping only a temporary one.

I have not seen this debated in terms of smoothing out DR. I know the logic of proxies being portable. If portability is of no value which of the two will give me the smoothest DR?

There isn't a good answer because proxy and optimized media are the same thing (obviously if you use the same transcode codec to use)
