Audio playback issue

PostTue Mar 02, 2021 1:21 am

Hi -- thanks in advance for your help.

I'm using Davinci Resolve 16, and having trouble importing and editing .avi clips.

I have a series of clips that took in the early 90s, and am trying to import them into Resolve so that I can edit them. I can import and edit some of them successfully (video and audio), but not others.

Here's a screenshot of the properties for one of the files that comes across successfully:

Here's a screenshot of the properties for one of the files that DOESN'T come across successfully:

When I looked at the file properties, bizarrely enough the ones that don't come across have a different frame rate -- 29.97 (I have no idea why the frame rate differs ...)

So, I used VLC to change the frame rate of the "broken" files to 29.96, and now they import. But no audio. I tried another video conversion program: Any Video Convertor, with no luck.

I'm stuck. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think you will find that the audio sample rate of 32khz is the problem. In your pic the files that work are 48khz. Resolve certainly works with either 44.1k or 48k. I don't have any 32k files to test.
You could try transcoding the files in something like Handbrake or Shutter Encoder, up-sampling the audio sample rate at the same time.
