mp4 files failing to relink in XML import

Howdy forum dwellers.

I've done quite a bit of looking into this already and have thus far been unable to find a solution that doesn't involve transcoding or re-wrapping my media but hey ... here goes.

Workflow is as follows

A7sIII + FX6 footage --> Pluraleyes ---> XML ---> Resolve

When importing the XML to resolve it finds and correctly relinks all the .MXFs from the FX6 but ignores the existence of the .mp4s from the A7S.

I've tried relinking it in Premiere, no problems there, finds the media just fine.

The media is not moving at all, it's on a NAS, the same files that pluraleyes has processed into the XML.

I've tried various project settings in Resolve to get it to link to the media, nothing has worked.

I've tried directing it to search the folder that the media is actually in, this doesn't work either.

It's like Resolve is just ignoring it's existence and there's gotta be a reason why.

Additionally, during the import DR is not creating offline clips in the media pool for these mp4's either so I can't even do a forced relink to the source clips.

Am I doing something wrong here?! Help me forums, you're my only hope.

Check if those files have proper timecode, or if they all start at zero.
Plus, filling the field "reel/tape" can be helpful too. If nothing works, re-wrap the mp4 files into mov, that's a quick and lossless process.

Thanks Uli!

They actually do have timecode - to my surprise.

Regarding reel/tape field - are you referring to editing the metadata within resolve?

That's the only field which is getting exchanged between Premiere and Resolve, only the name differs.
So, give it a try in either app.

Not sending from Prem though :(

It's raw media straight into pluraleyes for sync.

I'll have a look in PE's system and see if there's anyway to alter metadata.

A re-wrap might be the better option then.

That's kind of what I was hoping to avoid.

We're dealing with very large amounts of media and I'm trying to minimise ingest time.

Seems like Resolve *should* be able to find the files, but it just ... isn't and there's no clear explanation as to why.

Hmm.. I wish someone from BMD would respond to this.

I've just had to ingest another massive multicam project and while 2 of the cameras were shot on mxf, one was on mp4.

Any guesses which format wouldn't relink after sync? .... (it was the mp4)

So now I've gotta manually import one camera and resync it with the other 2 when it should have just relinked as part of the XML import.... again.

There really doesn't seem to be a reason for this other than Resolve just doesn't like mp4.
