Weird bug when color grading

PostThu Mar 04, 2021 7:40 pm

Hi there,
First of all, I want to apologize if I'm not clear enough or if I make mistakes when I try to explain; English is my second language.

Anyway, here's my problem. I've been doing a little bit of color correction and grading for the company I'm working for. I've started about four months ago. I've encountered a weird bug/glitch when working in the color tab. Everyhting is fine, I do my stuff and all when suddenly pink pixels pop out of nowhere. They appear in a frame but not the next one (or they are elsewhere). They disappear when I add a node or when I disable the node I'm working on. They come on and off on the screen. I tought to myself that it must be a preview issue and nothing more so I went on and rendered my sequence to deliver it... The pink pixels were appearing in the render, they were popping on and off at different places kind of like a strobe light. Does it make sense to you guys?

I've overwrite the file and worked using only the "Gain/Gamma/Lift" wheels since it seemed to appear when I used the "Highlight/Midtone/Shadows" wheel. However, I took the free class of Waqas Qazi today and decided to try again but the bug appeared again . I got it to disappear but it reappeared soon.

I hope I explained my problem properly. I uploaded two screenshots that were took about three frame apart.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

What kind of media?

What specific version of Resolve?

What Operating System?

What GPU and driver version?

What are your Color Management settings?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Hello Jim,
First of all, thanks for answering. Here's my answer to your questions, I hope I didn't misunderstand anything.

Kind of media : it has been filmed on a GH5, in a MP4 format (MPEG-a AVC). The codec is H.264. The color space is V-Log. Resolution is : 3840x2160, 23,98 fps.

I used DaVinci Resolve 17 and the previous version, both did that bug.

I'm on a Windows computer.

GPU infos :
Intel(R) HD Graphics 630
Approx max memory : 16456MB
VRAM :128MB

Driver version : 26.20.100.7925
Date : 2/18/2020
Driver's model : WDDM 2.6

I've attached the Color Management settings for my project to this message.
Hope this helps! Thank you very much!

OK.

No dedicated GPU? (I would recommend an RTX model from nVidia here.)

Hi Jim,
So sorry for my late reply, I had personnal stuff to deal with this week.
Thank you so much for the tip, I'm taking note of it and I'll talk with the IT of the company. I'll keep you posted if the problem persists afterward.

Thanks again! :D
