EQ on linked track inducing a bug

PostFri Mar 05, 2021 4:04 pm

I struggled for about 10 days with an issue that resulted in the loudness meters randomly jumping to the maximum and suppressing all signal coming from my outputs.

I posted about it here viewtopic.php?f=21&t=135227&p=734617#p734617

The TLDR is that after muting and unmuting tracks to identify the source, moving clips around without the automation I ended up making it happen intentionally. It was having an EQ on a linked track - both a 5.1 and stereo. Just clicking on a parameter on the EQ triggered the glitch.

I don't know if it's a issue on my end as I've had this on multiple versions of Resolve.

Can you post the steps to reproduce?

Of course. This is what would happen to me eventually :

-Create 6 mono tracks.
-Link then as a 5.1 linked track.
-Put audio on these tracks.
-Make adjustments to the EQ.

The bug usually happens after a while. I've had it happen as soon as I make changes to the EQ but only once so far.

I'm unfamiliar with track linking. How does that go?

Hi Jim,

You have to go into Fairlight>Link Group. Then select the tracks you want to link and select what kind of linked group you want it to be. If you select 6 tracks you have the option of 5.1 and 5.1 film.

It has the great advantage over Pro Tools of allowing you to drop mono, stereo, quad, 5.0 etc. on the same linked group. For instance I can alternate between quad and 5.0 ambience tracks on the same group of tracks. Thus considerably reducing the numbers of tracks I need.

I discovered the option when I had in the AAF split mono files that I wanted to be stereo. In Pro tools if you just select them and drop them onto a stereo track it just works. That behaviour is not possible in Resolve.

Got it.

Now, is the issue with Clip EQ, Track EQ, or both?

The isssue is with track EQ. I haven't had the issue at all yesterday since I've switched to clip EQ for these tracks.
