How to add text attributes from one video to another

PostThu Mar 11, 2021 9:52 pm

Hi everybody
I'm doing a series of 5 minute clips from our world tour. I will have about 20 different films and can store them at the server of our internet provider. So I'm in a position to view the films and show single or more clips to friends etc.

I have defined subtitles (using the normal text layer), added attributes incl. a colored frame. That lloks great and I would like to have the same subtitle settings on all the films. The subtitles explain what is on the sreen, e.g. "Notre Dame in Paris".

Is there a way that I can copy these attributes from the first film (e.g. Paris) to a new film file (e.g. Venice)?

Thanks for any support.

Copying text attributes is a weakness in DR. I am not sure if this works but did you try dragging the text you like into a "Master" bin? Some things aren't allowed in Master bins and it is possible that texts are one but I am thinking you can.

If so, you could have your styled texts individually stored in a Master bin and then bring them into each project as needed.

Would be awesome if we could copy attributes or better yet, save our own text presets!

I think you mean Power Bin, Erik. The "Master" bin is just the name for the root level normal bin. Power bins share their contents across projects.

Another way to do it is to make your title in Fusion and save a macro .setting file in the appropriate directory for your system:

Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/ DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Templates/Edit/Titles

or

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\ Templates\Edit\Titles

Then restart Resolve, and it'll be available in the Effects Library. More detailed instructions are available in the manual, starting on page 1115 of the August 2020 version.

Easiest way is probably to open your Paris project, do a save project as and call it Venice then ditch all the Paris video media and import the Venice and get cracking

Thank you Jason! Yes, I meant power bin. Appreciate the correction.

Sorry, I have finally to say that Dave's solution does not work... hmm...

I'm not used to work with macros etc. but will try if Jason's version works...

The method described by David should work OK, I have used it before. But if you delete the subtitle track you will lose all of the styling. You have to delete the title clips but keep the track, then put the new titles on that track. This way you will keep the subtitle styling from your original project.
