Crash - DaVinci crashes when opening project

PostFri Mar 12, 2021 12:09 am

Hi,

DaVinci crashes when I try to open a specific project, other than that it runs perfectly smoothly. Sometimes I can open the project but as soon as I open a specific timeline it crashes.

I'm using ProRes LT footage captured using a Blackmagic 6k Pocket Camera. The timeline doesnt have any effects or fusion comps other than resizing and colour grading.

I can open the project when all the media is offline but as soon as it connects to the clip files it crashes. I'm also able to edit other timelines if the problematic one is closed but when I open it, it crashes. I'm not sure what the cause could be, the best I can do is upload the Crash Log and hope someone can shed a light on this :)

Update: I think the crash is being caused by my NAS, a Qnap TVS-872XT when connected via Thunderbolt, I tested using 1000Mb ethernet and it works fine, it's just super slow. I've ordered a 10Gb Thunderbolt adapter and hopefully this will fix the issue.

I had a similar issue with Resolve 17.7 build 24 crashing only for a specific project. Only one timeline exists in that project. Worked the cuts, one stabilization, all color grading, and fairlight; no fusion. The issue went away when I moved the source media.

The issue started when I set the timeline resolution to 8K and tried to grab a still from a raw image. The image was a 6K file from BMPCC 6K. I had to remove the grabs taken while at 8K DCI timeline, set the timeline to 4K DCI, save and close the project, restore the source media, and open the project again. I was then able to grab the stills at 4K, and Resolve hasn't crashed again on me since.

Hopefully that's helpful on the user side and the developer side. I exported the crash logs after I experienced the crashing, but before I found a work-around. Came complete with a 528MB "Resolve.exe.4456.dmp", so can't exactly post that part here, but here's the rest of the crash dump. If BMD wants the exe dump, please reach out and specify where to send it.
