I brought a BMPCC4K months ago and used the activation code that came with the camera for DaVinci Resolve. Had no issues using the editing software until today when I updated and once completed, DaVinci was asking for the activation code again. I have no idea where I put it because I didn't realise I would have to use it again. what can I do? I have clients waiting and no sign of being able to use DaVinci without the code which I have already used before.

You will have to find that card.

I'm sorry for you, but the only thing you must do after finding it is to take a photo with your smartphone from your keycard code.

Black Magic Design should have records of the Activation Codes so you do not have to pay $299 for another one. This is a very unprofessional way to run a company. When Adobe Premiere software use to require a serial number, Adobe always had a record of it.

Blackmagic doesn't sell the cards to consumers directly, only to retailers in a batch.

BMD have no ongoing record of licenses being sold or traded and we clearly indicate on the card to store it in a safe place. Sorry not to have better news for you.

Black Magic should always have a record of the Activation Codes. It is the smart way to run a business instead of making the customer pay for another Activation Code.

Come on, guys... it's explicitly explicitly written in the card itself:

- Keep the card in a safe place for future activations.

- Lost cards cannot be replaced.

And even if it wasn't written, taking a quick snapshot of an important not-to-be-lost activation code takes no time at all, and is just plain common sense.

The license comes on a physical product, either a dongle with the code stored in a file or a credit card with a code printed on it. Either way, it's still a physical product, dongle or card.

Not may companies offer to replace physical products that you lose.

Why would Black Magic Design not keep a record of the Activation Codes? How difficult would it be?

I can see the difficulty of that when they only sell the licenses to retailers.
