Hi All, As a newbie I've watched many DR training and intro videos. I now see that when you want to create a Title near the bottom of the screen it's called a Lower Third Title (not available in beginner video editing software like OpenShot).

I'd like to learn how to create titles with brackets or boxes around the title or broken brackets around the title but i don't know what those Title brackets or broken brackets are called in DR.

Can you pls share what the proper name for them is and possible any video or graphic showing you how to create them?

Those aren't really text elements, there's no specific name for them. They're just stylized graphics.

The simplest approach would be to find an included Fusion Titles that you like and use that, or a third-party title that you can add to Resolve.

If you're really ambitions, you can learn to do these yourself. It's a bit of a jump for beginners, but the new Shape tools in Fusion would be good for this.

To help make things easier, Blackmagic has created some really great training materials. I'd recommend doing the books - Beginner's Guide, Advanced Editing, Fusion.

Each of these I've attached have a name assign to them my DR but I need helping IDing them.

Ex. There's a Title creation in Edit Page and you can choose Lower Third Vertical 2 Line and bring that over to Inspector >Fusion and create that effect.

No video provided on the BM page I watched stated exactly what that technique is called. I had to search all over the net and it took a lot of time to discover I was look for a Lower Third. Not a term used in OpenShot or everyday conversation.

I'm now trying to ascertain that broken bracket around text is called in DR? Once I kw the name I can research more.

Thanks

No, but it is very common in this industry, which is why I like to recommend folks looking to do this work start with some schooling in film/video production.

It helps. ;)

Those brackets do NOT have a standard name. Not every effect has a name that is an industry standard.
Lower 3rd has been a standard industry term for over 40 years!
There are VERY few specialised terms that are used in everyday conversation. It is wise to do some basic film/video terminology research and basic Resolve training.

Hi,

After watching many DR tutorial videos I’ve succeeded in creating a Title – Lower Third with vertical text on 2 lines with title animated (typed in).

I’d like to ensure the words in that Title appear on screen so they’re not obscured by the video clip under that Title. I can adjust the Main Text Size so the text is smaller and that works but not for the entire length of the time the Title words appear on screen, just for the last 2 seconds or so. Is there an adjustment I can make in Main Tracking or other way to ensure the text is not obscured the enntiee time it's seen on screen?

Or maybe I can move the text elsewhere on the screen? Upper left? Upper Right?

Thank you!
