Since version 17.0 you can directly modify Media Pool clips in the Inspector, before you edit those clips into a timeline. There is problem when you create Optimized Media or Proxy Media from clips you have edited in the Media Pool. For example, if you rotate a clip 90 degrees in the Inspector in the Media Pool, the proxy clip will actually be rotated 90 degrees. This means that if you then insert the clip from the Media Pool into the Timeline and "Use Proxy Media if Available" is checked, then the clip will be rotated a total of 180 degrees in the Viewer (90 degrees from Proxy file and 90 degrees from Inspector settings). Of course, the same applies to all other adjustments in the Media Pool Inspector. Although the clip is rotated 180 degrees in the Viewer, it is of course only rotated 90 degrees when rendered! It's impossible to work with proxies/optimized media when making adjustments in the Media Pool in the Inspector, because you can't see the clip in the viewer as it will be rendered.
You can easily test this:
1) (for safety) Playback->Render Cache: None
2) Media Pool Inspector->Transform->Rotation Angle: 90
3) Generate Proxy Media
4) Insert Clip into Timeline
5) Enable Playback->Use Proxy Media if Available
