Optimized Media Works well but not in multicam view?

I'll try and explain my workflow a little in case I'm just doing it "wrong" and there's a much better way. I've been doing this for a year but honestly I probably still don't do things "correctly" as it's not my job. More of something I got pushed into and I'm ending up really enjoying.

I record our church service, I have my GH5 in the back and we have a cell phone right up in front in case someone walks in front of the camera I can switch over for a bit. I also do it every now and then for some variety. I also have a separate audio recording from the mic.

For some reason even with a clap doing the auto multicam via sound doesn't work for me with those 3 sources. So I throw each source into it's own timeline, cut them all so they all start where I want them and then I create a multicam based on timecode and that works great. The GH5 is new to my setup as I punch in a lot from my wider "stage" angle onto the speaker I really wanted the 4k so I could punch into a nice 1080p resolution.

Anyway, I started to play with actually doing a 4k timeline and with the small clips I tested the results are quite a bit cleaner when looking at the GH5 footage. I just have this problem that I have H.264 footage and so does the cell phone so my computer is pretty choppy when running that mode...especially since I watch most of the footage at 2x speed and that was just impossible.

I switched over to quarter sized optimized media last night, let it run and tested it this morning. The main window is nice a blury :), my drive was keeping up nicely, and that was smooth, even at 2x speed. However the multicam window seems to still show (or attempt to) the full resolution videos, not the optimized ones, so it's still just as choppy as ever. I honestly watch that view more than the main sometimes as I'm looking for people moving who may be right at the edge of the frame and I might not catch if watching the main zoomed in view.

Is there something I can do to get the multicam window to use the optimized media or is that not a thing? I have ordered Studio and after I get done with this week's videos I'm going to switch over to Studio 17, not sure if that'll help or not.

Just wondering if there's either a. a way to get the multicam view to use the lower quality footage or b. if there's a better workflow I should be using that people have ideas about. Right now with how long it took me to do the optimized media I'm more tempted to throw these into Handbrake and use a method I saw on YT to basically create your own proxies and tell DR that the clips are in a different folder. Just thought I'd ask before I go that route.

Computer specs:
Ryzen 3700x
RTX 2070 Super
64GB

My footage is not on an SSD, however I've been monitoring it and with the optimized media my drives are still fine at the quarter size.

Thanks
Davey
