Hello everyone,
I usually find my answers on this forum but not this time, so for the first time, I'm asking for your guys' help.
First of all, let me do a quick sum-up of my history with Resolve, it might help you understand the problem. I've used Davinci Resolve on and off for several years now, and I first installed it on an older Macbook Pro.
I've now migrated all my data and files to a new Macbook Pro 16" 2019 with TimeMachine, including Davinci Resolve 16.
Note that my specs are the following :
MacBook Pro (16", 2019)
2,6 GHz Intel Core i7 6 cores
32 Go 2667 MHz DDR4
AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 Go
(Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 Mo)
Recently I decided to upgrade to Resolve 17, so I first downloaded it from the App Store: no luck there, it crashed on the loading page.
I then went on the official BlackMagic website and downloaded the app again. I ran the "Uninstall Resolve" to get rid of all the old stuff and then installed the new version.
The app loaded, launched, and then asked me to update my databases, and then just froze.
I had to force quit the app and now it just gets stuck on startup. Everything loads perfectly fine, it goes to the "Ready" text, and then it freezes.
I tried to do a clean install by removing all the files relatives to Davinci, reinstalling the app, and still, it does the same thing.
However, I did manage to launch the app with the Terminal by going Open app package > MacOS > Resolve.
But when I do this, I have a "VSTscanner has crashed" that appears.
So I have a few questions :
1) Could my problem come from the fact that I've migrated an older save (older Macbook pro) on my new computer and the Resolve 17 gets mixed signals?
2) Does anyone know how to solve my problem and launch Resolve normally? (launching from Terminal is not practical because Terminal has to stay open)
3) Can using Resolve without VST Scanner be harmful? Like could it crash unexpectedly?
Thank you in advance, and sorry for the bad english (I'm french)
Best,
Antonin
