Remove wind noise

In Fairlight there is, among other things, the NoiceReduction effect. It doesn't seem to be the right thing for wind noise. Of course, I can play with the equalizer and delete certain frequencies - yes, then the wind noise is pretty far away, but unfortunately also the entire frequency and thus speech is alienated. Is there a better way or a better effect?

Wind is one of things things you reeeeeeally don't want in your recording to begin with. I'm not aware of any post method that can do what a dead cat can.

Thank you - I feared that. If anyone else has a good idea ...

The only thing I can think of that may help is a Spectral editor such as Izotope RX8. It's not cheap though.

There are several available tools for this task but it depends heavily on available budget and can also be heavily source dependent.
Had very good results with Cedar Retouch and the
Cleanse algorithm. The alternate Spectral Editors are unfortunately not up to the task.
Also have Accentize
VoiceGate and Acon Digital
ExtractDialogue available in the arsenal for fast turnaround workflows.

Thanks for the tips - that means external tools.

There are two kinds of wind noise, I think: the low-end punch/thump where the wind is literally pushing your mic diaphragm around, and the higher-end white-noise-ish sound.
If you look at iZotope's RX, as Charles mentioned, it has a de-Wind filter which works at the low end and is pretty good for that purpose. (I think it's in their Advanced product, which is very pricey, and it can dull the overall sound.) The higher-end noise is tricky, and various other noise removers handle it to varying degrees.
I've used RX's de-Rustle filter and de-Plosive filters on the higher noise with varying success. Really strong gusts of high-end noise has pretty much defeated me.

I have a sound tool (CoolEdit Pro 2 - does not exist anymore ..) that removes wind noise very well - only I have to separate the sound and video, then edit the sound file and add it back to the video track at the end and then make sure that this is really lip-sync too ... I was hoping there would be an easier (and cheap) solution;)

Configure CoolEdit as an external audio process:
Preferences > System > Audio Plugins > Setup External Audio Processes
Type:
"Command Line" automatically opens the Audio Clip in the external application.
"Reveal" locates the Audio Clip in the Finder / Explorer for external applications that do not function with the "Command Line" option.
"Clipboard" shares data between applications.

Yeah, the ability to have multiple external audio editors configured is very nice! I have IZotope RX, Ocenaudio, and Audacity all configured. (RX is paid, but Ocenaudio and Audacity are free. I really like Ocen.)
